Social Media

Adam Griffin, Chelsea Griffin, and Cassie Bryant discuss how we can lead and disciple our families when it comes to social media.

Questions Covered in This Episode:

  • What are we going to do about kids on social media? Why is this all over the news right now?

  • What is the difference between social media and general access to the internet for a kid?

  • What is the benefit of social media? Maybe start with for anyone and then can you see any benefit for kids?

  • What is the potential harm of having kids on social media?

  • What decisions if any are you making about social media for your family or for the families you lead at church?

  • What scriptures come to mind for you when you talk about whether to be on social media platforms?

Denison Forum Recommendations:

  • Draw boundaries and keep them rock solid.

  • Educate your kids on the inherent risks, pornography, and stranger danger.

  • Allow them freedom in proportion to their trustworthiness. (limited usage? Smart devices?)

  • Give them a safe space to talk about things that make them uncomfortable.

  • Be a loving ear for their woes and keep up a healthy dialogue about their relationship with social media.

  • Carefully consider at what age to allow them to enter certain sites, if ever.
