2 Samuel 7 is the covenant with David. What is a covenant? How are they employed throughout scripture? How does this one fit with those that came before? Why is it significant?
Helpful Definitions:
Re-edenization: God bringing His kingdom back to the world.
Davidic Covenant: In the Davidic covenant the covenant keeping God promises to re-establish his Kingdom on earth in that God will dwell with his people, take dominion over his creation, all through his earthly King (2 Samuel 7).
Dwelling: God’s presence with humanity in the world that He created. The story of the Bible is “God with us.”
Dominion: God’s creation of the world and his command to humanity to extend his glory to all of creation. Dominion relates to the place (Eden/Earth/Kingdom) and the task (Cultural mandate/discipleship) of God’s people.
Dynasty: The crowning achievement of God’s creation is a people that will reign and rule with God as His vice-regents or representatives on earth.
